Dodge Ram 2500 Off-Road Tourer Build

With more and more US Trucks being used for touring and towing in Australia, we simply had to see for ourselves if these US trucks are a legit platform for outback touring. For the 2022 Remote Area Testing (R.A.T) Run, the team at Cruisemaster added the 2500 Ram to the fleet as it’s lead test vehicle.

We knew it could tow, but could it tow in the unforgiving outback conditions of Australia? The team was on a mission to build the Ram 2500 into an outback tourer capable of matching the workhorse Landcruisers used before it. It was time to put an American Truck to the ultimate test.

Dodge Ram 2500 Bull Bar

Up front and centre on the 2500 is an East Coast Bullbars Triple Hoop Alloy Winch Bar. This bar houses a 15,000LB Carbon Winch, big enough to safely recover the large pick-up out of tricky situations.

The winch is fitted with a 30 meter static winch rope from Maxtrax, a safer, metal-free alternative to traditional cables and hooks.

Suspension Upgrades for 2500 Dodge Ram

To optimize off-road performance a Jmacx Off Road Solutions GVM Upgrade with Alpha Electric Shocks have been fitted to provide a bigger payload, better damping and suspension performance. Airbag Man Coil Helper Bags are also installed to assist the vehicle under its full weight capacity.

Dodge Ram Off-Road Tyres

This Ram has been fitted a with a set of new MAXXIS RAZR A/T Tyres with ROH Rhino Wheels providing a happy medium between on & off-road driving.

Ram 2500 Interior Tourer Equipment

Inside the cab, this Ram has been kitted out for it's touring future ahead with the following;

• ARB Twin Compressors for inflating tyres

• A Projecta 600W Inverter for running appliances

• New release ScanGauge III for live performance monitoring of vehicle vitals

• SupaFit Black Denim Seat Covers

• Switch-Pros Switch System to control the additional lights and accessories with Bluetooth connectivity

Additional Ram 2500 Off-Road Tourer Modifications

A full body Vehicle Wrap has been carried out with Armour Doctor showcasing the Cruisemaster logo and decals whilst adding an additional level of protection to the paint underneath. Other modifications made to this 2500 to get it tour ready include;

• GME UHF XRS-330C Antenna for long range communications

• Pair of NARVA Ultima 215 MK2 driving lights to improve visibility

• Invicta Lithium Starter Battery

• AEV Snorkel for increased air flow

Dodge Ram 2500 Tray Canopy

As this vehicle is our lead testing vehicle we are continously modifying, testing and improving the set up to suit our harsh Australian conditions. One of the latest modifcations has seen a Norweld Australia Full Size Deluxe Tray & Canopy. This shelters multiple accessories including a Projecta Intelli-Grid System along with drawer systems.

How Did It Perform?

After the Towing Performance Centre was finished with the 2500 Dodge Ram modifications the crew put it through its paces in the 2022 Rat Run through the Aussie Outback.
